Breakfast Cereals-2007's Best

!±8± Breakfast Cereals-2007's Best

The most healthful breakfast is whole grain cereal. If you're trying to lose weight, control cholesterol or diabetes, or just need a lot of energy, your best bet is a hot cooked cereal of whole grains, such as oatmeal; or barley, brown rice or wheat berries cooked and served like oatmeal. Flavor it with raisins or other dried fruits, cinnamon, and perhaps a handful of nuts such as pine nuts.

If you prefer cold cereal, you need to check the list of ingredients carefully. The FIRST ingredient should be a whole grain. Then scan through the entire list and if you see the words "partially hydrogenated," put the box back on the shelf. We recommend that you avoid foods with partially hydrogenated oils (or "trans fats"), and they still show up in many cereals (see the list below.)

Once you've eliminated all the brands made with refined grains or partially hydrogenated oils, check for ADDED sugars (you want little or none) and fiber (you want a lot.)

Raisins or other dried fruits will add a lot of grams of sugar to the listing on the nutrition panel; they are not distinguished from added sugars, so you can only estimate the amounts.

The fiber content listed on the nutrition label can be confusing because it's based on serving size, and very light cereals (such as puffed wheat) show little fiber per serving, but an acceptable amount when you adjust for weight. Cereals made from bran (the outer covering removed from whole grains) will have higher fiber content than cereals made from whole grains (which have the germ and starchy parts of the grains as well as the fiber), but they can be hard to digest.

2007 Update:I'm delighted to note that partially hydrogenated oils (trans fats) have been taken out of many cereals. The old list included 56 brands with PHO's; the new list has only 13! Most of the popular General Mills, Post and Quaker cereal brands no longer have them. Kelloggs is the one major cereal maker that has not yet removed them from many of their leading products; hopefully they will respond to consumer pressure soon.

Is it really whole grain? Manufacturers have also responded to the call for more whole grains in our diet, so you will find a lot more choices that meet my recommendation of "whole grains as the first ingredient". However, many that claim to be "whole grain" still include refined grains. You may need to do some detective work to see what you're getting. One-ingredient whole grain cereals (i.e., shredded wheat, puffed wheat, oatmeal) are sure bets. If you see milled corn, corn meal, wheat flour or rice in

5 Fun and Easy Recipes For You and Your Preschooler

!±8± 5 Fun and Easy Recipes For You and Your Preschooler

Cooking with your preschooler is a wonderful way to teach measuring, counting, shapes and following directions. Here are 5 easy to make and healthy goodies for you and your little one to make together.

Cinnamon Shapes

All you need for this recipe is slices of bread, butter or margarine, ground cinnamon, granulated sugar and cookie cutters in different shapes. Some good shape choices are star, circle, diamond, heart, oval, and triangle. Toast the bread. While the bread is cooking, combine the cinnamon and sugar in a small bowl. Butter the toast and sprinkle with the cinnamon sugar mixture. Then use the cookie cutters to cut the slices of toast into shapes. Discuss the different shapes with your child and ask them to choose the shapes to cut.

Banana And Berries Sweet Shake

For this sweet and nutritious treat, you will need 1 medium ripe banana, 1 cup frozen berries (strawberries and blueberries are good choices), 1 cup milk, 1 cup vanilla yogurt and 1 tablespoon honey. Note: Do not give honey to children under one-year-old. Have your preschooler peel the banana and put it in a bowl. The child should then mash the banana. Pour the yogurt, fruit, milk and honey into a blender and add the mashed banana. Blend until smooth and creamy. Enjoy!

Ants In The Peanut Butter

This was one of my children's favorite recipes when they were little. All you need is a bunch of celery, a jar of peanut butter and a small bowl of raisins. Using a spoon, scoop the peanut butter into the celery stalks. Then place the raisins in a row on top of the peanut butter. These will be the only ants you will not mind your children eating.

Mini-Pizzas

These tiny pizzas made with English muffins are the perfect size for preschool appetites. You will need sliced English muffins, pasta sauce, shredded cheese and healthy toppings such as green pepper, mushrooms, black olives and sliced tomatoes. Let your child spread the sauce evenly on the English muffin halves. Then add the toppings before sprinkling the cheese on top. Bake the mini-pizzas on a baking sheet for 8 minutes at 400ÚF. Now have a pizza party.

Trails Away Mix
Many young children do not like store bought trail mix because it has unfamiliar fruits and nuts. Now you any your child can make your own trail mix filled with familiar favorites. Help your child measure 1/4 cup unsalted peanuts, 1/3 cup mini pretzels, 1/4 cup raisins, 1/4 cup chocolate chips and 1/3 cup cheerios or granola. Pour every ingredient into a large bowl so the preschooler can stir with a mixing spoon. Both of your can spoon the mix into small plastic bags or bowls for a quick snack anytime, anyplace. Happy Trails Away!

Food - Cereals

!±8± Food - Cereals

They say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Well, if that's true, some of these breakfast cereal manufacturers need to get on the stick, at least according to most nutritionists. We'll take a look at some of what's available to a typical family.

The sad truth is, most breakfast cereals are pretty much empty calories, at least the ones you buy in a box. Oh, there are exceptions but you really have to look for them as the most common breakfast cereals are pretty much marketed for children. To see how true this is, one only needs to walk down the cereal aisle in your local supermarket and take a look at some of the more popular titles.

If you've been watching TV since the 1960s you have certainly heard Tony The Tiger scream, "They're Great!" He is of course talking about Kellogg's Sugar Frosted Flakes. This is one cereal that could send a child into a sugar stroke without even blinking an eye. It's no wonder kids are hyper in school all day. And of course the list of these kids cereals goes on forever with titles like "Sugar Pops", "Sugar Smacks", "Corn Pops", "Count Chocula", "Frankenberry", "Booberry", "Cocoa Pebbles", "Captain Crunch", "Cheerios", "Honey Nut Cheerios", "Trix", "Lucky Charms" and on and on and on. It's like an army invasion just checking out each box, one with more sugar than the other.

Fortunately, there are some decent cereals out there. For the health nut there are some fairly nutritious titles like "Golean", "Golean Crunch", "Wheaties", "Cream Of Wheat", "Farina" and other similar types. These cereals don't have nearly as much sugar as the kid tested variety and many of them are even high in fiber like Kashi's Golean and Golean Crunch which have ten and eight grams of fiber respectively. They still have a small amount of sugar but in comparison to the kid cereals, they're much better.

Of course there are your hot and cold cereals. Most of the ones mentioned above are your out of the box, throw on a little milk and some fruit cold variety. But on a cold winter day there is nothing like a nice hot bowl of cream of wheat or farina. If you want something really fast there is the whole Quaker Oats line of oatmeal cereals. All of these come with a different kind of flavoring added like maple brown sugar, apples, peaches and cream and others. These are easy to make. Just open the package, throw it in a cup or bowl, add some water and pop it in the microwave. In about one minute you've got yourself a hot cup of oatmeal. The packages are small and don't really make a lot so if you have a big appetite you may want to make a couple of these.

Eventually, breakfast cereal manufacturers are going to realize that breakfast really is the most important meal of the day and they're going to start making cereals that you won't mind your kid eating first thing in the morning.

Brand extensions - are not just for breakfast cereals Anymore

!±8± Brand extensions - are not just for breakfast cereals Anymore

Fragmentation, extensions, Subs, and spin-offs -

Yoga can save your business brand

Brand of a company is one of the largest, most important asset, one that has developed over the years, one that must be massaged maintained, cultivated and nurtured. For general information about company products and services, sometimes to put your brand through some exercises like yoga can lead to severe alignment, increased sales and improved profitability. The creation of brand extensions, brand fragments,Sub-head of brand and spin-offs that can identify the company closer to its potential customers, better serve existing customers and create greater value for the parent company over time.

In general, the practice of marketing, it is clear that being everything for everyone is not the most effective way to market your company and your products. The one-size-fits-all approach leaves much to be desired, since it is expensive and inefficient to reach the right customer at the right time withoutinto space to meet 99% of the time. But know this, yet many companies are considered to offer "what you need, we can do" in an attempt to win and serve customers effectively. Top-flight entrepreneurs have realized that the construction of its core business of "stick to their knitting," is a strong, effective strategy for stability and growth.

With the knowledge that the core business should be the only store to sell many companies in all theirNon-core activities, effective revenue from these businesses, regardless of their health. There are other solutions that are less tiring to use mainly revolving effective brand.

Service companies, particularly those that offer a wide range of services for a variety of industries are often too large - so much so that their brand is prone to suffer or efficacy is so widespread as to be irrelevant. One of the most powerful elements of a well-defined brandthe ability of the company, a set of properties strictly implemented to create easily identifiable and transferable to all services offered. It works without this central theme, the brand is less efficient and loses power.

A solution to this challenge is the creation of sub-brands or extensions, each with slightly different characteristics, place baskets of services more closely related. Market orientation and customer research will often point out the break points clearthe services the government to effectively group, depending on how customers use and perceive these services.

Sub-brands are presented as extensions in a different way - in general, the new brand, along with a slogan to identify the brand, namely "Orange-Glo, a subsidiary of Johnson SE" - the cache of the parent brand, SE Johnson , to "buff" the new product, Orange Glo and transfer these positive qualities to the new product.

Expansion tendscarry more aspect of the brand and nomenclature, and is more effective with closely related products. An example can be easily processed in the food industry will be: Cheerios and Honey Nut Cheerios. An extension is essentially a new-style version of the original product. The new product has the same beneficial properties as the original, but to serve as an improvement or a lateral move to a new market. General Mills owns many brands, and moreThis is grain, but the brand is Cheerios, without being extended, the name of the parent.

Fragmentation occurs when the main brand is all divided into different units of the same parent company owns. Coldwell Banker successfully created fragments that contain some of their acquisitions and essentially gave their inner turmoil of a brand outside. Among these, a residential property and a commercial one for financial services, one for the economy and servicesfor a loan service, all of Coldwell Banker nickname was with them. Fragments can be separated easily and can be sold as free-standing, independent unit, if they are profitable, so that the flexibility to remain consistent for the core business. This spin-off from a brand that take some of the most important characteristics as the original, but roam the farthest from the cluster from the core business.

Each of these brandsAdaptation strategies is to provoke a certain set of circumstances, that its implementation, based on the service model, customer profile, goals and objectives of the company and its management. Wide range of service businesses are often well served to adopt a strategy of fragmentation, so that pooled for baskets of services and effectively marketed to a customer's profile thicker. Most diverse conglomerate of companies often benefit from a combination of integration and spin-offsStrategy to gain some resources with the main brand of polish, and standardize, and then put them in place and start the free-standing company without redirecting significant resources to do so allowed.

Extension is often used to advertise the service or product mix gradually penetrate slowly into new market niches and expand the target market to expand into more sales. Sub-brands are often used to integrate acquisitions and to absorb the newly acquiredCompanies with the largest umbrella brand. This can only be pushed so far, especially if the parent has never shown evidence of a connection or in the possession of know-how in its core business of the new company. Best evidence of history, when AMF bought Harley Davidson motorcycle.

AMF is a manufacturer of sports equipment, basketballs low boats and bowling balls known. View on the map, motorcycles, another piece of exercise equipment, use the same direction MFATolerances and manufacturing techniques and marketing strategies for motorcycles, with catastrophic consequences. MFA brand was not strong enough to overcome the problems inherent in business processes and production, followed.

Quality, which was held earlier at a premium, rushed to the stores for sales and nearly destroyed the brand. Once a company to build bullet-proof-cycles for a given part of the population known to horse, now offered annoying leaky, unreliable bikes, the more time spent inShop on as the road, and had the back of public parades of those who are positioned to protect the parts fly off the back. HD-management eventually bought the company back from AMF and implemented highly effective, strict production standards and began to rebuild the brand. Finally, he addressed a fault near a runaway success story of the product brand, creating an iconic American brand in the process.

Mark HD is now one of the strongest inCountry, and now lends its cache to select and tested by hundreds of licensed products, continue large revenue streams and build brand, and spawning its own sub-brands like Buell (acquisition), Screaming Eagle (a company) and HD Road (extension).

Of course these are not brand gymnastics taken lightly but after considerable introspection and taken before the Council. If no in-house expertiseBrand experience on a product level, which often help to recruit a qualified consultant, to guide them through the murky waters of the touchy-feely brand differentiation in collaboration with a team of qualified business transition. However, it is done, a plan is required to take the card strategy for the five years to allow the team to assess the potential impact of these movements and mitigation measures to avoid the negative consequences of the changes.

How a company does, the changeState of the brand will allow them to more accurately group and potential customers, which are better and greater customer loyalty, increase the value of the life cycle of the company. You can create more robust sources of income over time, and in some cases, these types of changes may be a marginal companies to weather the economic struggle, but powerful enough for the construction of the cache, enabling greater success for the future.
